Weekly Intelligence Summary 26 March

The new Internet of Things (IoT) botnet ZHtrap has been turning devices it has infected into honeypots, in a novel technique that highlights yet another risk presented by exposed IoT devices. IoT devices often have unaddressed vulnerabilities that are easily exploited by threat actors. The flaws’ prevalence in smart technology has likely sustained IoT botnet development and the malicious targeting of IoT devices. The importance of securing IoT networks cannot be overlooked, particularly in the wake of the high-profile supply-chain attacks that have occurred in 2021. As the smart-technology industry grows and more organizations rely on IoT infrastructure, security is essential.
